February 2024 - March 2024
I began by blocking out the space, ensuring it was at the correct scale. I then began modeling certain elements I knew I could use modularly that I was also unlikely to find elsewhere. In particular, I modeled the industrial railing for the catwalks, the I-beams, the trusses, and the circular rig that hold up the stage lights. I textured all of them in Substance 3D Painter.
I began to add in my assets, using supplements from Quixel Megascans, and adding textures to the surfaces also with what Quixel provided.
Then I brought in the lighting, changing the time from golden hour to moonlight, so the cold blue light would contrast against the warm but unnatural colors of the club in reds and oranges.
The dancing crowd is made of scans of my classmate's friends, made using in3D, which rigged them nicely to use Mixamo's dancing animations. If we had more time, I would have liked them to be wearing 70's disco garb.
The disco dance floor was an interesting new challenge, which gave me the chance to dig a little deeper into material creation. Each block changes color based on it's world location, which gives it an odd and funky pattern as the color change is offset.
In my final touches I added Rotators to the lights to let them sweep the dance floor, many graffiti decals, and a good smattering of vine foliage to give the place more texture and feel a little more alive.
Created for my XR 2 class.Â
